Mark Douthwaite Psychotherapeutic Counsellor

My name is Mark Douthwaite, and I’m a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working with children, young people, and adults. I’m also a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I work safely and ethically in line with their Ethical Framework. I hold a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.

I offer sessions in my therapy room in Newburn, but I also provide outdoor therapy for those who feel more comfortable in nature. Outdoor sessions—usually in a ‘walk and talk’ format—start and end at my Newburn base, with a variety of route options. I’m always open to adapting the outdoor experience to meet your individual needs.

If you prefer a more traditional setting, my therapy room is located on the top floor of Newburn Activity Centre. It’s fully accessible by lift and suitable for wheelchair users. You can view pictures and find more details about the space here.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to be developing the Northeast’s first Mobile Therapy Unit. This will help make therapy more accessible in different locations and can serve as a flexible option between room-based and outdoor sessions.

I take a person-centred approach, which means we’ll work at a pace and depth that feels right for you. Outdoor therapy will initially be offered for lower-intensity concerns such as low self-esteem, confidence issues, mild anxiety or depression, stress, sleep difficulties, and existential challenges. More in-depth or intensive work can be done in the therapy room—or in the Mobile Therapy Unit, once it’s available.
